I start a new class this week! Last week was my Spring Break with college and my son’s school district cancelled school. So, we had the entire week off. Last Friday, it was announced that school will be closed until April 3rd, plus his Spring Break will stay as originally scheduled. He will be out of school through April 10th!
Learn how you can encourage your kids to continue learning despite the Coronavirus!

Here’s to another several weeks of learning at home, together! I am a bit worried about focusing on college while my son is home. Thankfully, I am only concentrating on one class now! It should be more manageable for me! I can do a few hours of school work throughout the week!
In addition to everything going on (Coronavirus, schools closed, and college), we also have ABA Therapy every evening! I think his therapy helps him continue learning! He’s learning to follow directions, daily life skills, and even working on his speech and communication! I am so thankful we started before the school closings! At least his ABA Therapy offers some normalcy.
Last week, I noticed he was getting irritated during therapy. His routine changed with school being closed! That made me realize I need to incorporate learning activities, art, and physical education while we are stuck at home!
Since we will be home so much, I am gathering art supplies, games, activities, coloring books, etc. I am still looking for activity books to purchase online.
This past weekend, I bought several items to motivate us to stay active and keep learning! Let’s get started!
Stay Active
I wanted to buy some sports equipment, such as balls, bubbles, etc. My son’s class has physical education. They play catch, stretch, walk, play games, blow bubbles, etc. The encourage the students to keep moving and active! So, I wanted to continue that while we are at home.

I bought two sized balls, one big soft ball, and one smaller ball! I already started playing catch in the house. We make it fun and exciting! We count how many times we throw the ball! I make it a learning experience!
It’s been raining and overcast here, so we’re playing indoors. Once the sun comes out, I plan on playing at the park and going for walks throughout the day!
I also bought a small bowling set. I know his class has a bowling set too, but theirs is a bit bigger. His class will bowl in the classroom! I’m not sure if I will keep the set I bought!
Inspire Creativity
I tried looking for activity books and coloring books but didn’t see anything that worked for us!

Instead, I bought a blank sketch pad, markers, and paint! I figured my son could draw and paint. I am still looking for coloring books and activity books!
Free Lesson Plans
I also plan on working our way through these free home-based lesson plans! With our schools closed, I am challenged to create lesson plans, including art, physical education, and more within our daily schedule!
I am so glad I took the time to volunteer in my son’s class! I had a chance to see what activities my son does in school and the type of arts and crafts! From that, I can create worksheets and activities for us to do each day! I hope to keep his schedule somewhat similar to his school routine.
