Weighted blankets are hot right now! I have a feeling it’s because we are so caught up in everything of our daily lives. We rarely take time to unwind before bed. It helps to shut down your mind and body so you can sleep peacefully! Also, many of us suffer from mental health issues, special needs, or just need to find comfort! Find out how to find a weighted blanket that is right for you.

We’ve tried a few weighted blankets and found what works and what doesn’t. Think of weighted blankets as an investment. If you’ve priced them out, you’ve seen they are not cheap!
Since I’m not one to turn to sleeping aids or medicine to help me fall asleep and stay asleep, I wanted something to try — something natural. I’ve tried aromatherapy, changing the mattress, upgrade my pillows, and more!
By the way, small changes do help! It’s okay to start small and make changes based on your needs!
6 tips to choosing a weighted blanket
Tip 1: Consider the weight
Don’t just choose the heaviest or the lightest blanket. Weighted blankets are different weights for a reason. Use the company recommendations/weight charts.
Tip 2: Get a cover
Most companies sell their weighted blankets with a removable cover. Or offer the option to buy one separately. Get the cover! This will come in handy when you need to wash the cover!

Tip 3: Give it time
One of the biggest disappointments with my brand new weighted blanket is that it didn’t seem work right away. What did I do wrong? Am I using it wrong?
However, a friend gave me the best advice: she suggested giving it two weeks for your body to adjust to using a weighted blanket.
Please don’t expect the blanket to change your life overnight! However, if you’re lucky enough to notice a difference overnight, that is certainly possible!
If it doesn’t work right away, keep trying. Give the blanket a chance. The weighted blanket is an investment and so worth the feeling of being safe and hugged!
Adjust the blanket.
You may find the blanket will shift inside the cover. Make sure the corners are centered and securely in each corner.
I noticed my blanket would slide to the foot of the bed, so I made sure to center it in the bed and make sure everything was securely in place.
Additional Tips from Kansas. She tried a few products from SensaCalm.
Tip 4: Go Big
When in doubt go larger width wise.
She goes on to say hers is very narrow and wishes she had chosen a larger width! I would have to agree with her. My blanket is barely wide enough to fit on my queen size mattress! I personally have the TRUBlanket and use it on my bed. I love it but if it was wider, that would be a bonus!
Tip 5: Cleaning & Care
Make sure to do your research when it comes to cleaning and care. Some blankets are washable and some aren’t.
Tip 6: Children
If you’re thinking about getting a weighted blanket for a child, be sure to mention it to their doctor to see if they think it would help any issues they are having.

When I chose my son’s blanket, I knew right away that he could benefit from it. He has Autism and sometimes has trouble falling asleep and even staying asleep! Since he is a teen, I chose a 10 lbs weighted blanket.
I weight 135 lbs so bought the 20 lb blanket. The size was fine on my queen bed but found it was too much weight on me. I have fibromyalgia and it was too much pressure on my joints, causing my hips and shoulder to be sore from the pressure. Went to the 8 lb which covers the core of my body. So far this has worked well and seems to be helping me sleep with less tossing and turning through the night.
