You heard it! Coronavirus causes school district to cancel school for a week! So, that happened last weekend. We received an email that our school district was going to cancel school and any activities for the entire week!

It was a bit shocking when our school district decided to cancel school, any events, and student activities for the week. Not only that, they decided to cancel our Spring Break (it was scheduled for the first week of April). They said this week was considered our Spring Break instead!
Honestly, I felt bad for the parents who had to scramble to find childcare for their children for the week. I also felt bad for the families who had travel plans for Spring Break in April!
I am very thankful to be full time caregiver to my son. Essentially, I work from home. I can’t imagine what the families were going through trying to find childcare or make arrangements!
The Media Isn’t Helping
Everyone is stocking up on toilet paper, surface sanitizing wipes, and hand sanitizer! I am lucky enough to already have a nice supply of hand sanitizer. I have not purchased extra toilet paper, nor have I purchased surface sanitizing wipes. I think being on a budget and trying to stay rational about the media causing panic in others has kept me from stocking up on items!

My son and I have always used hand sanitizer, which is why I already have some on-hand and don’t feel the need to stock up. We only use it when we are out and about running errands! Also, we spend most of our time at home. We wash our hands throughout the day! I do have plenty of stock on hand soap too!
Please remember: Basic hand washing is the best defense to staying healthy!
The CDC recommends washing your hands for at least 20 seconds. I started singing to myself to be more aware of how long I should be washing my hands.
I also didn’t feel the need to buy surface sanitizing wipes because I already use natural cleaners. I also recently made my own batch of homemade lemon vinegar cleaner! I am always cleaning and wiping down our surfaces, whether it is our counter tops, door knobs, tables, my phone, my son’s communication device (iPad), TV remotes, hard surfaces, floors, and more!
My son’s school being canceled worked out for us perfectly! This week also happened to be Spring Break for my college courses! My son and I have been taking it easy this entire week! It’s been nice to be able to relax! I appreciated not having to worry and stress out about college work. Instead, I was able to enjoy!
Throughout the week, my son’s school district kept us informed on any updates and changes they made. They ended up reinstating sports and other activities as well as Spring Break! My son will still have his Spring Break the first week of April!
