I am in the middle of the first week of college! It’s been quite an adjustment. I’m still trying to find a schedule that works for me, all while being a mom, blogger, and managing our household. We’re learning at home and I’m excited to explore more!
I am inspired to create more learning opportunities at home. My son loves helping me around the home.
Helping at home
He loves folding and putting his clothes away. He helps gather dirty towels and such when I ask.
He lends a hand whenever I ask him.
He enjoys helping me overall! He’s always eager to get involved!
When we’re at the grocery store or even out and about, I like to ask him questions. He usually has to point and identify items, identify colors, identify letters, etc. I like to have him “help” me find items at the store too!
Learning at school
When I volunteered in my son’s classroom, I got to see what and how they were teaching my son. I saw the activities and worksheets he was working on. I am amazed at what he can do!
Learning tools at home
I bought a few sets of flashcards for shapes and colors, subtraction, addition, and numbers. I also bought a calculator because they have him using a calculator at school!
They also use food menus and have him add up the total. So I can easily pick up several “take out menus” from local restaurants!
I hope to start creating lesson plans for him to work on a few times a week.
We’ve already started using the flash cards. I love seeing what my son already knows. Watching him work through the flash cards and using a calculator is exciting!
College supplies
My college courses follow a schedule and I’m trying to stay organized by reading through the course syllabus too. Since I don’t have a printer, I have the documents saved in my computer. I may get a planner or a calendar to help me keep track of due dates! This way, I can write down when assignments are due and visually see them on a calendar!
I did buy highlighters and gathered an old notebook and pens. I upcycled a broken mug to use as a pen holder. I’ve been using the notebook to keep notes in. I wanted highlighters to use with my notes!
Obviously, there are still more college supplies I need. With textbooks and documents being online, I prefer to take notes and write things down. Writing information down helps me remember everything and have it available on hand.
