This past weekend, I had a date with someone I was talking to for about a week. We made plans for Sunday. He had plans for Saturday and even mentioned he wished he could reverse his plans (and have our date on Saturday instead). As it turns out, his Saturday plans canceled on him. So, we ended up going out on Saturday. So, how it’d go? Let me tell you about the tinder date that wouldn’t leave.
What is Tinder?
Tinder is a dating app. It’s pretty much like “looking through a catalog” and swiping right or left on people. I didn’t really use the swipe feature. Instead, at the bottom of my screen, they have a red X or a green heart, so I used the icons rather than swipe.
I was under the impression that Tinder was a “hookup” app. However, being curious, I decided to check it out and be honest on my profile about what I was looking for. I quickly learned that not everyone uses it as a hookup app. There are a variety of people on there looking for almost everything under the sun. So, in conclusion, Tinder is not JUST a hookup app.
Let me preface this by saying as the “longest date ever” was happening, I kept thinking about writing about it on the blog and titling the post as “The Tinder Date That Wouldn’t Leave.”
And here we are. I’m ready to share my experience.
Bad Sign #1
For our date, we made plans to go to a comic book store. He came to pick us up. He greeted me with a handshake.
A handshake. It felt like a cold and distant way to greet someone.
So, it had been decades since I’ve been to a comic book store. Honestly, I pictured it would be similar to how The Big Bang Theory depicted the experience for the women who walked in. I now see it was done for comedic purposes and most likely over exaggerated. My experience wasn’t even like that. The store did have female employees too. There were mostly male customers. I did feel one or two of the employees stare a bit but that was it. No crazy or creepy staring.
He knew that I am a fan of The Walking Dead, so he bought me a book about the show.
Bad Sign #2
We made a few other stops and then ended up going to a tourist area that locals and out of towners visit. It’s a beautiful place to walk around, shop, explore. It was hot that day, so we tried to walk in the shade or walked indoors just to stay cool. We stayed for a few hours just walking around.
While we were out walking around this tourist area, he made no attempt to hold my hand or try to get close to me. In other words, I felt like he just wanted to keep his distance. Again, it felt cold. It also felt like a friendship type of “date.”
To shorten this story, he ended up staying over. He thanked me the next morning for letting him “crash.”
I realized he had no intention of leaving any time soon. I could feel that he liked being over.
I didn’t sleep well on Saturday night. Being single for so long, I miss being able to move around on my bed!
We watched a few movies and shows. We even watched a movie that he really liked and I didn’t really care for it. It was not even that interesting, it was funny at times but that was it.
We ended up going to eat lunch at a chain restaurant. My son loves the food and it’s a family-friendly place.
I started to feel exhausted after a few hours of eating. It was early in the afternoon too. He had just started yet another movie he liked. I didn’t care for it. I made it about 30 minutes into it and decided I needed a nap.
I didn’t think he’d stay over yet another night, but he did! He asked if I wanted company, and I didn’t know how to say “no.” I wish he had chosen to leave. Apparently, he packed a bag to stay two nights!
I didn’t expect him to stay another night! The night before (Sunday), he snored. It was annoying. I missed my freedom of being able to move around on my bed. Every time he started to snore (because, yes, I was awake), I would purposely stir and move around a bit. He would stop snoring for a bit and then start again. It was dreadful.
Luckily, he woke up around 4am and had to leave early. He lived quite a bit away and had to get home to get ready for a new job he was starting.
Catching Up Around The Home
I ended up getting up shortly after to start cleaning. After the long weekend of not being able to do what I wanted around my own home, I needed to get laundry done so my son would have clean clothes! The first load of laundry was our clothes that had piled up since Friday.
I did several other loads of laundry, including towels, pillows, and bedding! As that was going, I cleaned my hard floors, shampoo’d my carpet, and started the dishwasher. Like I said, everything piled up over the weekend.
I was done with everything by noon or so.
I also wanted to clean because his scent lingered. I think it was his fabric softener and that scent was super strong. I think it made my throat itch a bit and cough! That is pretty bad!
I left the windows open all day and night! It helped air out our home and keep us cool when needed. I prefer the fresh air.
Needless to say, I didn’t feel any chemistry. He didn’t try to kiss me or hold my hand. There wasn’t really any type of closeness.
