Happy 14th Birthday, Sweet Boy! Today is my son’s 14th birthday! How can he be 14? It doesn’t even feel like 14 years has passed.

That morning
I still remember that morning!
It was supposed to be the first day of my week vacation from work! I had requested that week off! I had plans for the week. I was going to finish packing my hospital bag! I only had my bag out and a few of my clothes and items I wanted to take. It wasn’t organized at all.
I also planned on organizing and finish getting our son’s room and crib ready! There was laundry and cleaning I wanted to do. Lastly, I also wanted to rest.
Too tired to notice
Being pregnant, I got up a few times during the night to use the restroom. I clearly remember getting up at about 3:30am or so. I remember peeing and after I was done, I wiped, stood up and put my panty back on. Then, I leaked a bit. I thought it was urine, so I sat down to pee a little more. I wiped, got up, put on my panty, and leaked again.
This went on a few more times when I finally got tired.
I changed my panties and ended up putting on a feminine pad just because I wouldn’t stop peeing little by little. I was exhausted and just wanted to go back to bed.

Waking up for the day
I got up again around 7am to use the restroom and the same thing happened! Leaked a few times. I remember telling my husband [at the time] what was going on. He suggested I called the hospital and they told us to come in.
Before leaving, I wanted to take a shower! While I was doing that, my husband [at the time], got the car ready. He put my overnight bag in the car.
I also called my mom to let her know we were headed to the hospital. We weren’t sure what was happening and thought I could be in labor. I remember she didn’t really think I was in labor.
No one believed I was in labor. I think my husband was shocked and confused as to WHY I’d want to shower instead of us rushing straight to the hospital!
Lucky numbers
We arrived and checked in to the hospital just after 7:20am or so. I remember walking into our room and looking at the clock and it read 7:21am. We were in Room 13.
I didn’t start having contractions until about 10am. I remember feeling the pain for hours. I was trying to go natural and without an epidural. It wasn’t until about 3pm that I finally caved and got the epidural.
I know that I was a little out of it, exhausted, hungry, and thirsty when my son was born. There were the little things I forgot to do, such as count his little fingers and toes. Thankfully his dad did that. I was more in shock after having my son.
What was wrong with me
I can’t explain what I was feeling, I just remember when they handed him to me right after he was born, I could only hold him for a few moments before I handed him to his dad. It’s as if I didn’t want to hold my son.
Happy 14th Birthday

Love blossomed
When they brought my son back to the room, he was wrapped up in his blanket with a cute little hat on. He has his color and slept so peacefully. As soon as I saw him, my love blossomed for him. I couldn’t take my eyes off of him. My love for him was instant in that moment.
My little man was born at 10:19pm. Ten Nineteen is also my brother’s birthday (October 19th). We were in Room 13. One three is the day my son was born (January 3rd). I feel like all those numbers have a special significance.

Happy Birthday, Sweet Boy! Your mama loves you to the moon and back.
